It is a tradition of our Church to celebrate the Akathist to Our Lord, the Most Holy Theotokos, and Ever-Virgin Mary on the fifth Friday of Great Lent. This is an ancient hymn of praise to the Theotokos (the one who gave birth in the flesh to God the Word), hailing her for every aspect of her role in our salvation.
